Ichigo had to struggle to ignore Renji's howls of laughter.

The Third-Seat said, very blandly, "Sorry sir, but rules are rules. In order for one to be successfully instated as a Captain by defeating the predecessor, there needs to be two hundred witnesses to the fight from the same division as him."

"Or her."

"Or her," acknowleged the Third-Seat, nodding at Renji. "Not -" and here there was a pause, as notes were double checked - "not... one hundred and ninety nine."

Renji said, "You could always take the captain proficiency test. Or maybe -" (he guffawed) "- maybe you could bribe Kuchiki-Taichou and Zaraki-Taichou to give you a recommendation."

Ichigo broke Renji's face.
